Does it seem like winter lasts forever?
Endless snowstorms have turned parts of Utah into a doppelganger of Hoth or Narnia during the rule of Jadis, the White Witch. Sunny days in these winter months have been nothing but a cruel tease, masking the arrival of a fresh batch of snow. Winter sports enthusiasts celebrate new storms. Everyone else is caught in a miserable spiral of shoveling driveways and scraping ice off car windshields.
This week’s massive snowstorm inspired a new poem. What would a snowpocalypse look like? The answer might already be outside our windows.
No two snowflakes are exactly alike. Everyone has heard this saying. These words obscure a hard fact. Snowflakes serve a sinister purpose. They work together in a dark pact. Fresh snow seems peaceful at first. Falling from billowing clouds. Blanketing everything in pure white. Resembling frozen cotton candy. Lighting up even the shadowy night. You feel a hunger to sprint outside. Flop down in your backyard. Spread out your legs and arms. Create numerous snow angels while seduced by the snow's charms. Something is different this time. These snowflakes multiply like rabbits. without making a discernible sound. They spread from house to house conquering every last inch of ground. Nothing is spared from advancing snow. Animals flee before the numbing cold. Cars are entombed street to street. Snowflakes continually climb higher, forming a never-ending glacial sheet. You love to ski and snowboard? You relish sledding down a long hill? Be prepared to turn a new page. Survival will be your daily activity, when you enter this second ice age.
I can totally relate given the weather this week.
