When the mist scattered, Kate found herself standing on the main canyon road again. Her clothing changed into a gorgeous red sundress that matched the hue in her fluttering shoulder-length locks. Daylight returned. A smattering of wispy clouds, random puddles, and muddy soil lingered as signs of the previous night’s rainstorm. Kate stared past the guardrail bordering the edge of the road and gazed upon her mangled car. The entire frame twisted and buckled like a giant pretzel. Broken glass lay scattered across the ground. Only two tires remained intact.
