How Cats Conquered Earth
An original poem about our feline overlords
Cats are equal parts fun, cute, and mysterious.
I've loved cats since I was a little child. My family has owned cats since before I was born. Many of my earliest memories are tied to playing with these cherished pets. One bitter irony amid these pleasant memories is that I'm allergic to cats. (Dogs and horses fall into the same category.)
My Dad currently owns five cats – four in a small outdoor feral colony and one who lives indoors with him. The indoor kitty is Chloe – a sweet little girl who I rescued from a woodpile where some heartless individual abandoned her as a kitten nearly nine years ago.
I enjoy sharing poetry with readers of this newsletter. My latest poem explores those furry felines who capture hearts with such ease.
Everybody wants to rule the world. A popular song detailed that impossible dream. Aspiring rulers are too late to conquer man. One species already captured this planet, claiming ownership behind a flawless plan. Diminutive intruders arrived at our doors, armed with a cunning battle strategy. These small creatures worked their charms, through petitioning meows and loud purrs, from tiny apartments to sprawling farms. Behind cute faces, big eyes, and plush fur, they melted hearts and captured minds. No army or navy could match their speed. Infiltrating one home after another, creating an unspoken persistent need. Bending humanity's will is so simple. Tempted with promises of belly rubs and stroking their furry little heads, we were convinced to surrender everything from our dinner to our beds. Alien invaders should turn back now. Earth will not fall to an interstellar fleet. Every entity existing in time and space who dares to cross paths with a cat will share the fate of the human race.

Cats are just waiting for us to realize that we are their slaves. My brother loved cats, I am more of a dog person but I have made friends with a few kitties over the years.
