John, ever do any songwriting? For whatever reason, this one reminded me of my songwriting days (like 30 years ago), and I'm cognizant that songwriting and poetry are different arts, but there's a ton of crossover. I don't mean that you can't like sing a poem or whatever, but I myself would tend to modify the lyrics alongside the melody at the same time, and that's a very different process. This is definitely a good representation of the feeling you're describing, FWIW.

You know, I've actually contemplated doing some songwriting. My family has a musical background. My oldest sister is a talented pianist and won a statewide competition in high school (she was later featured on a local TV program). I drifted away from a potential career in music when I was younger because an injury to my left hand left permanent nerve and tendon damage, making it difficult to play the piano or guitar. But I definitely incorporate rhythm and meter into my poetry, so songwriting might be a natural thing for me. You're absolutely right, there's a ton of crossover between songs and poetry.

If you are interested/curious and it feels right, you could always try putting some of your words with an AI generated song from the likes of Udio, which makes it super easy to compose a tune. Alternatively, you could just create a melody yourself and then use some of the existing stuff to create a tune that's digital in nature, then layer your lyrics over it later on, etc. I can only imagine how great these tools are (I haven't written any music in over 20 years myself).

Thanks for the suggestion. I might try Udio out when I have a free day in the near future to play around.
