Many time travel stories center on changing the past to repair the future. The protagonist wants to undo an event causing pain and turmoil in their present life. Some stories end with success in creating better life circumstances. Other stories detail disasters that unfold after messing with time.
The irony is current scientific theories consider time travel to the past impossible. We can journey into the distant future if we found a way to travel at speeds near the speed of light. But the past remains strictly off-limits. On a philosophical level, time travel to the past will always be a dream and a goal.
Why?
People tend to dwell in the past rather than live in the present with eyes on the future.
This idea formed the inspiration for my latest poem. Enjoy!
Traveling back in time, experts claim, is an impossible journey. You only move forward, never backward. Time is a one-way street. Their ideas are incomplete. Half-baked food inside a preheating oven. Time travels one direction. Scientists erred calculating the destination. Future days always prowl beyond fingertips. An elusive fleeting mirage. Past life is present life. Tunneling roots planted deep in fertile soil. Through a gaping doorway outstretched arms welcome weary travelers. Inhabit distant memories. Explore old questions. Search for different answers.

Nice poem, John. I don't comment often but enjoy everything you write. ^_^
Take care, keep writing!
Great word shapes in this John, and cool thematic. I always thought that if you could travel in the future it was a one way ticket and no one could ever come meet you there because you essentially split off on your timeline.
